A Place Called Heaven

A PLACE CALLED HEAVEN

(PASTOR LEE JACKSON –  FFWC)

I)       INTRODUCTION – HEAVEN IS COMMONLY PORTRAYED AS A MYTHICAL PLACE WHERE EVERYONE BUT MASS MURDERS GO WHEN THEY DIE AND WHERE WE become angelic beings with wings with nothing to do but SIT ON FLUFFY WHITE CLOUDS AND PLAY our HARPs.  there is an anthem of a song that says: “EVERYBODY talking about heaven not going there…”  THE BIBLE HAS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT HEAVEN AND IT NOT AT ALL LIKE THE WAY IT IS PORTRAYED in our mythology.  IT IS TIME TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, lets see what the BIBLE HAS TO SAY ABOUT a place called HEAVEN…

II)    HEAVEN IS A REAL PLACE

A)    Isaiah 40:22, 23 speaks of God as, “…He who sits on the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in; 23  who brings the rulers to nothing; He makes the judges of the earth as vanity.”

B)     Ezekiel said  (exe 1:3) THE word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him. 4 AND I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire enfolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

C)     Psa 48:2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

D)    Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

III) HEAVEN IS GOD’S DWELLING PLACE – THE PLACE OF GOD’S THRONE

A)    Psa 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

B)     Ezekiel Chapter 1.

C)     Isa 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. 2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

D)    Rev 4:1 AFTER this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will show thee things which must be hereafter. 2  And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. 3 AND he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. 4  And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. 5 AND out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

E)     Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

F)      THE APOSTLE PAUL: 2Co 12:2 – 7:  I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such a one caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) 4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 5  Of such a one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities. 6  For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me. 7  And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

IV) WHEN WE SERVE THE LORD WE ARE LAYING UP TREASURE IN HEAVEN

A)    Mat 19:21 JESUS said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

B)     Mat 5:11 BLESSED are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

C)     2Ti 4:6 FOR I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 HENCEFORTH there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

D)    Mat 6:19 – 21 LAY not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 BUT lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 FOR where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

V)    HEAVEN THE FINAL DESTINATION FOR GOD’S CHILDREN

A)    Joh 14:1  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2  In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 AND if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

B)     Mat 17:1 …Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart, 2  And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. 3  And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with him.

C)    1Co 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20 BUT now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 FOR since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 FOR as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 BUT every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

D)    1Th 4:16 FOR the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 THEN we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 WHEREFORE comfort one another with these words.

VI)  CONCLUSION – WE STATED THAT HEAVEN THE FINAL DESTINATION FOR GOD’S CHILDREN, THE PROBLEM IS THAT WE ARE NOT ALL GOD’S CHILDREN.  IN THE HOUR OF HIS DEATH JESUS TURNED TO THE THIEF ON THE CROSS WHO HAD BELIEVED ON HIM, AND SAID THIS DAY YOU WILL BE WITH ME IN PARADISE, BUT THERE WAS ANOTHER MAN ON THE OTHER SIDE THAT WAS ALSO CONDEMNED TO DIE AND JESUS SAID NOTHING TO HIM.   WHAT THEY BELIEVED ABOUT JESUS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THEIR ETERNAL DESTINATION: LUKE 23:39 AND one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 BUT the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 AND we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 AND he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 AND Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.  ARE YOU ONE OF THOSE WHO IS SAYING TO JESUS IF THOU BE THE CHRIST? OR DO YOU received that revelation, as simon peter, that jesus IS THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.  what you believe and act on makes changes your eternal destination from the fires of hell

OTHER SCRIPTURES ON HEAVEN

2Co 12:2 – 7:  I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such a one caught up to the third heaven.

Eze 1:1- 24  Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. 2  In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin’s captivity, 3  The word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him. 4  And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire enfolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. 5  Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living Creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man. 6  And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings. 7  And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot: and they sparkled like the color of burnished brass. 8  And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings. 9  Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward. 10  As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle. 11  Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies. 12  And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went. 13  As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. 14  And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning. 15  Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. 16  The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the color of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel. 17  When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went. 18  As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four. 19  And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up. 20  Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. 21  When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. 22  And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the color of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above. 23  And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies. 24  And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of a host: when they stood, they let down their wings. 25  And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings. 26  And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. 27  And I saw as the color of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about. 28  As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spoke. 2:1  And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee. 2  And the spirit entered into me when he spoke unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spoke unto me. 3  And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day. 4  For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.

THIS INVOLVES SURRENDERING OUR WILL TO GOD  (THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVEN TO THOSE WHO OBEY HIM, ACTS 5:32)

5)       WE MUST HAVE A DEEP DESIRE TO BE FILLED AND ASK GOD FOR THIS GIFT (JN 7:37-39, ISA 44:3, MAT 5:6, MAT 6:33)

6)       WE MUST HAVE THE RIGHT MOTIVES:  IN ACTS 8 SIMEON THE SOCEROR WANTED TO PURCHASE THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR THE WRONG REASONS AND WAS REBUKED BY PETER.
