Believing God’s Word

Believing God’s word is alive & powerful in us

(Pastor Lee Jackson – FFWC)

  1. intro –  tonight’s message is a footnote to my message this morning “believing god”.  Believing God’s word is alive & working powerfully in us.   we used to sing a chorus “the word is working mightily in me, the word is working mightily in me, no matter what i feel or see, the word is working mightily in me.

text: Joshua 1:8 niv: “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

II.             we can’t presently and actively believe god in our day-to-day challenges if we are not presently actively reading his word

Jesus taught us to pray “give us this day our daily bread…”

we are saved by grace through faith; we continue to live by grace through faith.

how do we come by this faith: rom 10:17 “so then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of god”; our spiritual hearing is healed by god’s word

D.   psa 119:11: “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you”; hiding god’s word in our hearts is a major safeguard against sin.  (read psalm 119:1 –

III. the word of god is active and powerful (heb. 4:12 amp)

we live in a day in which many people consider themselves spiritual

god’s word is not necessarily the source of their “spirituality”

god’s word divides between our thoughts and his thoughts

it divides between what is soulish (our rational thinking) and what is spiritual (revelation knowledge).

god’s word speaks to us and changes us when we read his word, mediatate upon his word, believe his word and applying his word.

receive god’s as a famished man / woman:

thank the lord and remind yourself daily “Lord, your word is alive and active in me today…changing me, healing me, renewing my mind, making my heart tender and increasing my love for you.”

Jer 15:16 When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty.

Psa 119:1 Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD.

Psa 119:2 Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.

Psa 119:3 They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways.

Psa 119:4 You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.

Psa 119:5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees!

Psa 119:6 Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands.

Psa 119:7 I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.

Psa 119:8 I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me.

Psa 119:9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.

Psa 119:10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.

Psa 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
