Gods Formula for Revival

GOD’S FORMULA FOR REVIVAL

(Pastor Lee Jackson – FFWC)

I)   INTRODUCTION – WE MAY NOT HAVE A FORMAL DEFINITION FOR REVIVAL BUT WHEN REVIVAL COMES YOU WILL KNOW IT.  THE WORD REVIVAL COMES FROM THE ROOT WORD TO REVIVE.   WHEN PARAMEDICS PULL A CHILD OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF A LAKE AND GIVE ARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION IT IS A GREAT RELIEF WHEN AFTER THE AIR PASSAGES ARE CLEARED OF WATER, MOUTH TO MOUTH RESUSCITATION IS GIVEN AND THAT CHILD TAKES ITS FIRST BREATH.  PARAMEDICS WILL TELL YOU THAT THEY CAN GIVE ARTIFICIAL RESUSCITATION AND GO ALL THAT THEY KNOW TO DO BUT THE RESULTS ARE UP TO GOD.

THE CHURCH IN AMERICA AND CHRISTIANS HAVE BEEN CAUGHT IN A GREAT MORAL AND SPIRITUAL UNDERTOW.  WE HAVE INHALED SO MUCH OF THE WORLD THAT WE ARE DROWNING. WE BARELY HAVE A SPIRITUAL PULSE AND WE ARE UNAWARE OF OUR DESPERATE CONDITION.  IT IS DESTROYING OUR LIVES, OUR FAMILIES AND THE VERY FABRIC OF OUR SOCIETY. WE HAVE LOST THE FEAR AND RESPECT OF GOD AND THINGS HOLY.  WE HAVE NEGLECTED PRAYER AND READING AND MEDITATING UPON GOD’S WORD AND HAVE ACCEPTED SIN AS NORMAL AND ACCEPTABLE.  WE HAVE SO GRIEVED THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT HE IS READY TO DEPART.

WE ARE IN CONFUSION WITH LACKING VISION AND SPIRITUAL DIRECTION AND SPIRITUAL ENERGY.  THE SPIRITUAL DECLINE OF THE  CHURCH IS REFLECTED THROUGHOUT OUR SOCIETY.  WE NO LONGER KNOW OUR RIGHT HAND FROM OUR LEFT HAND. BLACK IS WHITE. UP IS DOWN.  WRONG IS RIGHT.  GOD WANTS TO SEND REVIVAL MUCH MORE THAN WE WANT REVIVAL. THE CHURCHES OF AMERICA ARE DESPERATE FOR REVIVAL.  AMERICA NEEDS A REVIVAL.  WE TOO NEED REVIVAL HERE AT FAITH FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER.

II)  GOD HAS GIVEN US A CLEAR FORMULA FOR REVIVAL.

2 CHRONICLES 7: 14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

III)           WHAT MUST WE DO?

A)       HUMBLE OURSELVES & PRAY – Psalm 51:17   The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

B)       SEEK GOD’S FACE –  DANIEL 9:3 & 4I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:  And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession…

C)       TURN FROM OUR SIN AND OUR WICKED WAYS

1)     CONFESS YOUR SINS AND ASK FOR HIS FORGIVENESS

(a)   ACKNOWLEDGE & CONFESS YOUR PERSONAL SINS AGAINST GOD – BE SPECIFIC.

(b)   ACKNOWLEDGE & CONFESS SINS OF CHURCH, SOCIETY, NATION (DAN. 9:4 – 12)

2)      REPENT AND AGREE WITH GOD – WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS WRONG

(a)   STOP EXCUSING AND RATIONALIZING SIN.

(b)   TURN AWAY FROM SIN AND TURN TOWARD GOD.

IV)           WHAT HAS GOD PROMISED TO DO?

A)       FORGIVE US OF OUR SINS.

B)       HEAL OUR LAND.

V) CONCLUSION – THE BOOK OF JONAH TELLS HOW THAT GOD WAS ABOUT TO DESTROY THE CITY OF NINIVEH BECAUSE OF THEIR SINFULNESS.   GOD, IN HIS MERCY WANTED TO GIVE THEM ONE LAST CHANCE.  HE SENT JONAH TO WARN THEM OF IMPENDING JUDGEMENT WITH MIRACULOUS RESULTS.  THE KING HEARD THE MESSAGE AND REPENTED IN SACK CLOTH AND ASHES, WITH PRAYER AND FASTING AND COMMANDED THE PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME AND GOD HEARD AND SPARED THEM.

WHEN DAVID SINNED WITH BETHSEBA THE PROPHET CONFRONTED DAVID WITH HIS SIN AND DAVID CRIED OUT TO GOD.   THIS WAS RECORDED IN PSALM 51.

1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin [is] ever before me.

4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done [this] evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, [and] be clear when thou judgest.

5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden [part] thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; [that] the bones [which] thou hast broken may rejoice.

9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me [with thy] free spirit.

13 [Then] will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: [and] my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give [it]: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

17 The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
