His Majesty His Mastery

HIS MAJESTY / HIS MASTERY

(Pastor Lee Jackson – FFWC)

I.                   INTRODUCTION – OSWALD CHAMBERS “MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST” TEXT: “Ye call me master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.”  John 13:13 (NKJV)

II.               OUR LORD NEVER INSISTS ON HAVING AUTHORITY OVER US

A.                 HE NEVER SAYS THOU SHALT

1.                  OLD COVENANT:  THOU SHALT NOT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME

2.                 NEW COVENANT: “Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me”

B.                 HE LEAVES US PERFECTLY FREE

1.                  SO FREE WE CAN SPIT UPON HIM

2.                  WE CAN MOCK HIM AND RIDICULE HIM

3.                  WE CAN DENY HIM OR CRUCIFIED HIM AGAIN THROUGH WILLFUL SIN

III.            WHEN HIS LIFE HAS BEEN CREATED IN US BY SPIRITUAL REBIRTH

A.                 I INSTANTLY RECOGNIZE HIS ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY OVER ME

B.                 IT IS A MORAL AUTHORITY:  “THOU ART WORTHY…”

C.                 IT IS ONLY THE UNWORTHY IN ME THAT REFUSES TO BOW DOWN

D.                WHEN I REFUSE TO BOW DOWN TO HIM IT IS NOT HIS   UNWORTHYNESS BUT MY UNWORITHYNESS THAT IS REVEALED

IV.             CHRIST’S OBEDIENCE WAS AS REDEEMER BECAUSE HE WAS SON, NOT IN ORDER TO BECOME A SON

A.                 “I AND MY FATHER ARE ONE…

B.                 “THOUGH HE WERE A SON HE LEARNED OBEDIENCE BY THE THINGS HE SUFFERED”;

V.                 CONCLUSION – WHEN PETER TOLD JESUS HE DID NOT HAVE TO GO TO THE CROSS JESUS SAID “GET THEE BEHIND ME SATAN.   WHEN SATAN COMES TO US AND TELLS US THAT WE DON’T HAVE TO BEAR OUR CROSS OUT RESPONSE SHOULD BE SIMILAR.  IN LukE 9:23 JESUS SAID “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me…”
