How Do I Share my Faith

HOW DO I SHARE MY FAITH effectively

((Pastor Lee Jackson – FFWC) –  TEXT: MARK 4:3-9, 14-20 niv)

spiritual principles illustrated by the parable of the sower

  • the Seed is god’s WORD; ground is condition of the heart to receive god’s  word.
  • we ARE RESPONSIBLE TO SOW THE SEED BUT we ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RESULTS (PARABLE OF THE SOWER: mark 4:3 – 21)
  • some don’t understand god’s word & the enemy takes away before it can germinate, some receive the word and are saved but later fall away because their commitment to follow christ is very shallow , some receive the word and are saved but the cares & pleasures of this word choke out the word making it unfruitful,  but others receive the word and produce the fruit of the spirit (the life of christ is reproduced in them.)

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • the holy spirit draws people to receive christ: JohN 6:44 NO man can COME to me, except the Father which hath sent me DRAW him…
  • FIRST DO NO HARM (taken from the medical doctor’s hippocratic oath) – angry WORDS OR hostile ACTIONS quickly nullify any progress you may have painstakenly made to incluence someone to follow christ.
  • arguments & debates does not draw people2Timothy 2:23 – 26 NIV: Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.24 And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
  • PRAY & INTERCEED FOR THOSE THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO REACH: 2Corinthians 5:20 NIV:  We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

you influence people to follow christ THROUGH  YOUR godly LIFE

  • paul calls likened us to living epistles (letters): 2Co 3:2, 3 NIV:  You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. 3 You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
  • 1Pe 4:14 – 16 NIV: If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
  • 1Pe 2:15 KJV:  For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men

THROUGH YOUR TESTIMONY

  • people will listen to your testimony once they see your godly life; they want to know this gospel works!
  • 1Pe 3:15 niv:  But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
  • 2Ti 1:8  KJV: Be not thou therefore ashamed of the TESTIMONY of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

THROUGH ACTS OF KINDNESS & SERVICE

  • jesus told the story of the good samaritian in luke 10
  • we are to care for the poor, widow and the orphan and visit those in prision:   (Mat 25:33 -36, 39,40 niv)
  • look FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO FILL A NEED
  • VISIT THEM WHEN THEm or their families when sICK OR IN THE HOSPITAL, WHEN A NEW NEIGHBOR MOVES IN, ETC.
  • BAKE A PIE OR COOKIES and take it over to them, SEND THEM A CARD, INVITE THEM TO DINNER OR A COOK OUT
  • offer to mow their lawn or help them with a project
  • ask them if you can pray for them (and then do it immediately)

through GIVING OUT TRACTS /LITERATURE/books & bibles

  • KEEP AN INVENTORY OF VARIETY OF GOOD TRACTS & CARRY THEM; GIVE A TRACT THAT SUITS THE INDIVIDUAL (age, language, ETC.)
  • keep books (purpose driven life)  & bibles to give away

through building genuine relationships

  • no one wants to be your project,  everyone WANTS a TRUE friend
  • build genuine, authentic relationshipS based upon trust & love
  • jesus invested in his disciples, especially peter

CONCLUSIONBE PATIENT, BE PERSISTENT, don’t take it personal if they reject your attempts to witness to them; SHAKE THE DUST OFF YOUR FEET AND GO ON; LEAVE THE RESULTS UP TO GOD.  remEMber who you are, who you are working for and why you witness:  prov 11:30 kjv:  the fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; he that winneth souls is wise…”

Mar 4:3  Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

Mar 4:4  And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

Mar 4:5  And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

Mar 4:6  But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

Mar 4:7  And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

Mar 4:8  And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

Mar 4:9  And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Mar 4:10  And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

Mar 4:11  And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

Mar 4:12  That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

Mar 4:13  And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

Mar 4:14  The sower soweth the word.

Mar 4:15  And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

Mar 4:16  And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

Mar 4:17  And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.

Mar 4:18  And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

Mar 4:19  And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

Mar 4:20  And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

Mar 4:21  And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
