Seven Steps to Revival

KEYS TO REVIVAL

(Pastor Lee Jackson – FFWC)

I)   INTRODUCTION – I BELIEVE THAT GOD WANTS TO SEND REVIVAL MUCH MORE THAN WE WANT REVIVAL. THE CHURCHES OF AMERICA ARE DESPERATE FOR REVIVAL.  AMERICA NEEDS A REVIVAL.  WE ARE IN THE VORTEX OF MORAL DECAY THAT BRINGING US DOWN  AND FRAGMENTING OUR SOCIETY.  UP IS DOWN.  WRONG IS RIGHT.  WE ARE LOSING THE FEAR AND RESPECT OF GOD AND THINGS SACRED. THE SPIRITUAL DECLINE OF THE CHURCH IS REFLECTED IN OUR SOCIETY.   (READ CONDITION OF THE CHURCH, REVIVAL PRIMER, PAGE 15, 16)   THE WORD REVIVAL IN ITS VARIOUS FORMS APPEARS MORE THAN 250 TIMES IN THE O.T. AND 5 TIMES IN THE N.T.

A)        HENRY BLACKABY’S WORK ON REVIVAL AND AWAKENING ENTITLED “FRESH ENCOUNTER” DISCLOSES A CYCLICAL PATTERN TO THE REVIVALS OF THE BIBLE AND CHURCH HISTORY:

1)      GOD CALLS PEOPLE IN TO RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM AND BLESSES THEM

2)     HIS PEOPLE DEPART FROM HIM AND LOOK TO SUBSTITUTES AND IDOLS

3)     GOD DISCIPLINES HIS PEOPLE BECAUSE OF HIS LOVE FOR THEM (HEB 12)

4)     HIS PEOPLE CRY OUT TO HIM FOR HELP

5)     GOD CALLS FOR HIS PEOPLE TO REPENT OR PERISH

6)     GOD RESTORES THOSE THAT REPENT & RENEWS HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM

7)     GOD EXALTS HIS SON IN HIS PEOPLE & DRAWS THE LOST TO SAVING FAITH IN HIM

B)       APPLICABLE VERSES:

1)     Psalms 85:6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

2)    Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name [is] Holy; I dwell in the high and holy [place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

3)    Hosea 6:2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

4)    2Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

5)    JOEL 2:12,13 Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye [even] to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he [is] gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentant him of the evil.

II) HUMBLE YOURSELF BEFORE GOD & PRAY

(READ A REVIVAL PRIMER, APPENDIX A, PAGE 55, 56: PROUD PEOPLE & HUMBLE HEARTS)

III)           CONFESS YOUR SINS (REPENT)

A)       WHEN DAVID SINNED WITH BETHSEBA THE PROPHET CONFRONTED DAVID WITH HIS SIN AND DAVID CRIED OUT TO GOD.   THIS WAS RECORDED IN PSALM 51.

B)       ACKNOWLEDGE & CONFESS YOUR PERSONAL SINS AGAINST GOD (PS. 51:4)

C)       SEPARATE THE PRECIOUS FROM THE VILE (JER. 15:19)

D)       ACKNOWLEDGE & CONFESS SINS OF CHURCH, SOCIETY, NATION (DAN. 9:4 – 12)

E)       ASK FORGIVENESS OF THOSE WE HAVE SINNED AGAINST

1)     “FORGIVE OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO HAVE TRESPASSED AGAINST US” (LORD’S PRAYER)

2)     WE WILL NOT BE FORGIVEN UNLESS WE FORGIVE (MATT. 6:15)

F)        REPENT MEANS TO TURN AROUND, STOP DOING WRONG & DO START WHAT WE KNOW TO BE RIGHT (ROM. 6:1-3,6)

IV)           STUDY AND OBEY GOD’S WORD

A)       MEDITATE UPON GOD’S WORD

B)       WE LOVE HIM IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS (JOHN 14:15)

C)       IF WE ARE TO REMAIN IN HIS LOVE WE MUST KEEP HIS COMMANDS (JOHN 15:9,10)

V) COME INTO UNITY / AGREEMENT UNDER HIS HEADSHIP

A)       PAUL LIKENED THE CHURCH TO A BODY UNDER THE HEADSHIP OF CHRIST – WHOLE GREATER THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS (ORGANIC WHOLE)

1Cor. 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also [is] Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether [we be] Jews or Gentiles, whether [we be] bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

1 Cor. 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but [that] the members should have the same care one for another. 26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored  all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

B)       WE ARE TO KEEP THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT IN THE BOND OF PEACE WITH LOWLINESS AND MEEKNESS, FORBEARING ONE ANOTHER IN LOVE (EPH. 4:1-4)

VI)           TARRY IN HIS PRESENCE

A)       WE ARE TARRY IN IS PRESENCE TO RECEIVE THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

B)       WE ARE THUS EMPOWERED TO BE HIS WITNESSES IN JERUSALEM, JUDEA, SAMARIA AND THE UTTERMOST PARTS OF THE EARTH.  WE BEGINNING WHERE WE LIVE OUR FAMILIES, OUR WORK, OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, THEN HE MAY CALL US OUT TO OTHER AREAS, LANDS

VII)         TESTIFY & TELL OF HIS LOVE

A)       WE ARE TO TESTIFY OF HIS LOVE AND GRACE AND MERCY

1)    THERE IS OTHER NAME AMONG MEN WHEREBY WE CAN BE SAVED:  1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son [to be] the Savior of the world.

2)     PETER & JOHN BEFORE SANHEDRIN (ACTS 4:7-12)

VIII)        INTERCEDE FOR THE LOST

A)       GET GOD’S BURDEN FOR THE LOST (Ezekiel 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.)

B)       INTERCEDE FOR OTHERS – EXAMPLE OF ABRAHAM INTERCEDING FOR SODOM (GEN 18:16-32)

IX)           GIVE THANKS TO GOD

A)       THAT WE HAVE AN INHERITANCE WITH THE SAINTS (COL. 1:12)

B)       THAT YOUR NAME IS WRITTEN IN THE LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE

C)       FOR ALL THINGS – ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR OUR GOOD

Psalms 85:6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name [is] Holy; I dwell in the high and holy [place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Hosea 6:2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

Habakkuk 3:2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, [and] was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

Jeremiah 15:19 Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, [and] thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

2Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Psalm 51 (Entire Psalm)

Daniel 9:3 (RSV) Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and supplications with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.

4 I prayed to the LORD my God and made confession, saying, “O Lord, the great and terrible God, who keepest covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments,

5 we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from thy commandments and ordinances;

6 we have not listened to thy servants the prophets, who spoke in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

7 To thee, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us confusion of face, as at this day, to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, those that are near and those that are far away, in all the lands to which thou hast driven them, because of the treachery which they have committed against thee.

8 To us, O Lord, belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.

9 To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness; because we have rebelled against him,

10 and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God by following his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.

11 All Israel has transgressed thy law and turned aside, refusing to obey thy voice. And the curse and oath which are written in the law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out upon us, because we have sinned against him.

12 He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our rulers who ruled us, by bringing upon us a great calamity; for under the whole heaven there has not been done the like of what has been done against Jerusalem.

13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this calamity has come upon us, yet we have not entreated the favor of the LORD our God, turning from our iniquities and giving heed to thy truth.

14 Therefore the LORD has kept ready the calamity and has brought it upon us; for the LORD our God is righteous in all the works which he has done, and we have not obeyed his voice.

15 And now, O Lord our God, who didst bring thy people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast made thee a name, as at this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called,

2 with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love,

3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call,

5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all.

Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Matthew 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Colossians 1:3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

Colossians 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Romans 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.

Psalms 51

1 <<To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.>> Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin [is] ever before me.

4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done [this] evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, [and] be clear when thou judgest.

5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden [part] thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; [that] the bones [which] thou hast broken may rejoice.

9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me [with thy] free spirit.

13 [Then] will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: [and] my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give [it]: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

17 The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
