The Freedom That Christ Brings

THE FREEDOM THAT CHRIST BRINGS
(Pastor Lee Jackson FFWC)

I) INTRODUCTION – THE SONG GOES “LAND WHERE OUR FATHERS DIED LAND WITH THE PILGRIM’S PRIDE ON EVERY MOUNTAINSIDE, LET FREEDOM RING”. ONCE AGAIN WE CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY MARKING THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE FROM ENGLAND AND THE TYRANNY OF TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. WE AS CITIZENS OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY ARE BLESSED WITH FREEDOM AND THE BENEFITS THAT FREEDOM HAS BROUGHT TO US IN GOVERNMENT, COMMERCE AND EVERYDAY LIVING AS A FREE PEOPLE. THE IRONY OF IT ALL IS THAT SO VERY FEW OF US ARE TRULY FREE. THERE ARE SO MANY THAT ARE ENSLAVED BY SIN AND ADDICTIVE HABITS AND BEHAVIOR WHICH OFTEN LEAD TO PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL IMPRISONMENT. THE BIBLE HAS SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT FREEDOM. IT IS GOD’S WILL THAT WE SHOULD BE FREE. HE GAVE US OUR WILL TO MAKE CHOICES. IT IS HIS HOPE THAT WILL CHOOSE TO LIVE FOR HIM, BUT HE WILL NOT FORCE US. THE CONCEPT OF FREEDOM DID NOT BEGIN WITH THE SIGNING OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE. GOD HEARD THE CRY AND GROANING OF HIS PEOPLE ISRAEL AND DELIVERED THEM:

A) Exodus 2:23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.
B) Exodus 6:5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
C) Exodus 6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I [am] the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
D) Deuteronomy 5:6 I [am] the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

II) GOD HAS A VISION OF FREEDOM AND RESTORATION FOR ALL OF MANKIND THAT WAS FULFILLED THROUGH JESUS CHRIST AND THAT VISION WAS ANNUNCIATED BEFORE WE WERE BORN, BUT IT IS STILL OUR CHOICE:
A) Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end
B) Isaiah 58:6 [Is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
C) Jesus quoting Isaiah 61 in Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
D) Deuteronomy 30:15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
E) JOSHUA: “AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE WE WILL SERVE THE LORD…”

III) THE FREEDOM THAT WE HAVE IN CHRIST BRINGS FREEDOM FROM THE BONDAGE OF SIN
A) 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord [is], there [is] liberty.
B) (READ JOHN 8:31-36)
C) (READ ROM 6:6-10)
IV)
THE FREEDOM THAT WE HAVE IN CHRIST BRINGS FREEDOM FROM THE GUILT OF SIN
A) JESUS DID NOT COME TO CONDEMN US BUT TO BRING US NEW LIFE IN HIM (JOHN 3:16-17)
B) (ROMANS 8:1-2)

V) THE FREEDOM THAT WE HAVE IN CHRIST FREES US FROM THE TYRANNY OF THE FLESH AND SINFUL BEHAVIOR (READ ROMANS 8:3-14)

VI) THE FREEDOM THAT WE HAVE IN CHRIST BRINGS FREEDOM FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN
A) CONSEQUENCE – SPIRITUAL DEATH: John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
B) CONSEQUENCE – ALIENATION AND SEPARATION FROM GOD (ROMANS 8:15-17)

VII) THE FREEDOM THAT WE HAVE IN CHRIST BRING FREEDOM TO DO GOD’S WILL
A) Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
B) 1 Corinthians 9:19 For though I be free from all [men], yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
C) 1 Peter 2:16 As free, and not using [your] liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
D) (READ ROMANS 6:18-22)

VIII) CONCLUSION – THERE IS A VERY STRONG CORRELATION BETWEEN FREEDOM AND RIGHTEOUSNESS. SOMEONE HAS SAID THAT “MAN IS REALLY FREE ONLY IN GOD, THE SOURCE OF HIS FREEDOM” “WE FIND FREEDOM WHEN WE FIND GOD; WE LOSE IT WHEN WE LOSE HIM” IF YOU ARE HERE TODAY AND YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS FREEDOM THAT WE HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT, I HAVE GOOD NEWS FOR YOU. YOU CAN BE FREE, FORGIVEN OF YOUR SINS BEFORE YOU LEAVE TODAY. YOU CAN LEAVE HERE WITH THE PEACE OF GOD THAT PASSES ALL HUMAN UNDERSTANDING.
