THE LAW OF SMALL STUFF

DON’T LET LIFE’S MOLES BUILD MOUNTAINS

(Pastor Lee Jackson – FFWC)

  1. I. INTRODUCTION – HAVE YOU EVER WATCHED YOUNG CHILDREN AT PLAY?  OFTEN ONE WILL COME RUNNING TO HIS /HER MOTHER CRYING INCONSOLABLY OVER SOME LITTLE THING THAT HAPPENED THAT TO THE ADULT MIND SEEMED AS OF MINOR IMPORTANCE?  YET, HOW MANY OF US HAVE TAKEN OFFENSE OR LET SOME SMALL THING BEGIN TO BOTHER YOU UNTIL YOU WORK YOURSELF INTO A RAGE AND SPEW ALL OVER SOME UNSUSPECTING VICTIM.  THEN HAVING VENTED YOUR ANGER YOU BECOME EMBARRASSED AS YOU REALIZE HOW INSIGNIFICANT “THIS THING” REALLY WAS. TEXT: MATTHEW 6:31 – 34 niv

MatTHEW 6:31 – 34 niv:  So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

1PeTER 2:19, 20 msg:  What counts is that you put up with it for God’s sake when you’re treated badly for no good reason. There’s no particular virtue in accepting punishment that you well deserve. But if you’re treated badly for good behavior and continue in spite of it to be a good servant, that is what counts with God.

Php 4:4-8  kjv:  Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. 5  Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Php 2:1-8 kjv:  If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, :2  Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3  Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7  But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Mat 5:39 -48 KJV:  But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right CHEEK, turn to him the other also. 40  And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. 41  And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42  Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. 43  Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45  That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 6  For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47  And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48  Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

1CoR 13:4 – 7 NIV: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8  Love never fails.
