The Law of Success

THE LAW OF SUCCESS

SEEKING GOD INSTEAD OF THE TOP OF THE LADDER

(Pastor Lee Jackson – FFWC)

  1. I.              INTRODUCTION – WHAT IS SUCCESS?  DO YOU ANGUISH OVER WETHER OR NOT YOU ARE OR WILL BE SUCCESSFUL? CAN YOU FAIL AT A TASK AND STILL BE SUCCESSFUL?  CAN YOU SUCEED AT A TASK AND STILL BE A FAILURE?  (READ QUOTES ON SUCCESS) TODAY WE WILL SEE THAT GOD DEFINES SUCCESS VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE WAY WE DO,WHICH SHOULD NOT SUPPRISE US…HIS WAYS ARE NOT OUR WAYS, HIS THOUGHTS ARE NOT OUR THOUGHTS (ISAIAH 55:8 & 9).

TEXT: Joshua 1:8  – 9 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.  Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

 II)    WHAT IS SUCCESS?

A)    SOMEONE SAID “THEY CLIMBED THE LADDER OF SUCCESS ONLY TO FIND THAT IT WAS LEANING AGAINST THE WRONG WALL.

B)    DEFINITION OF TRUE AND LASTING SUCCESS:  “PLEASING GOD”

C)    while IT IS TRUE THAT GOD LOVES US FOR WHO WE ARE AND NOT WHAT WE ACCOMPLISH, god equips and calls to a life of purpose.

D)    success and OBEDIENCE go hand in hand.  we see this in the lives of ABRAHAM, MOSES, JOSHUA, JESUS, PAUL.

E)    GOD ONLY ASKS US TO BE FAITHFUL AND LEAVE THE RESULTS UP TO HIM; it is not about us but about him and his purposes: (1cor 3:6 – 9)

III)    DOES SUCCESS SATISFY?

A)    ACHIEVING SUCCESS IN THIS WORLD DOES NOT SATISIFY. WHEN WE HAVE ACHIEVED OUR GOALS WE ASPIRE FOR MORE (money, fame, control)  (PERSONAL TESTIMONY)

B)    ST AUGUSTINE “THE HEART WAS MADE FOR GOD AND WILL NOT REST UNTIL IT RESTS IN HIM.”

C)     true success is a by product of abiding in the vine (IN CHRIST) (john 15:5 – 8)

D)    WE DON’T CELEBRATE “OUR SUCCESS” BUT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. (LUKE 10:20)

E)    ABIDING IN CHRIST WILL MAKE US A BETTER HUSBAND/WIFE, FATHER/MOTHER, EMPLOYER/ EMPLOYEE, BUSINESS MAN/WOMAN, FRIEND, STUDENT…

IV)   PRACTICAL WAYS TO BECOMING successful

A)    abide in the vine – this is much more than just obedience TO THE LAWS OF GOD …he is our life “IN HIM WE LIVE AND MOVE AND HAVE OUR BEING..” (ACTS 17:28)!

B)    keep the faith – without faith it is impossible to please god; “be strong and very courageous”

C)    maintain your focus – 1CoR 9:24  Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

D)    MAINTAIN A GOOD ATITUDE – “let this mind be in your which was in christ jesus”;     zig ziglar: I’ts not what happens to you that determines how far you will go in life ;it is how you handle what happens to you.

E)    DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF OTHERS – 2Co 10:12 We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.

 V)    CONCLUSION – SUCCESS AT THE END OUR LIFE IS HEARING JESUS SAY “WELL DONE THOU GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT!”
